Become a Girl Scout

                                           Girl Scouts...Where Girls Can Be Girls!

   Girl Scouting is about learning new skills and developing new interests.

   It's about having fun and making new friends. Within the family of Girl Scouts,

   you discover your personal best; connect with others, locally  and globally; and take action to improve the lives of people within your community.

          What can you do in Girl Scouts?

  • visit a veterinarian and learn about animal care
  • create art or jewelry from recycled material
  • make lifelong best friends
  •  travel to Europe
  • Go spend the night at Sea World
  • scale a mountain or go white water rafting
  • sing songs or perform a play for the elderly
  • teach a young child or adult to real
  • go horseback riding
  •  sleep over in a science museum
  • attend a Broadway play on a trip to New York City
  • earn community service awards for college transcripts
  • advocate for a community issue that is important to you

     You do want you want to do! That's the fun of being a Girl Scout!

       Girl Scouts is not just about being part of a troop. You've got options!*

·         Events~ Spend Earth Day at the Zoo or participate in Girls Go Extreme Events.

·         Special Interest Groups~ Got a passion? Share it with other Girls Scouts.

·         Travel- Road trip anyone? Backpacking in Europe?

·         Virtual~ Girl Scouts online! IM and surf your hearts out.

·         Summer Camp~ Spend a week or two in the great outdoors. Next step...Survivor!

·         Troops~ Groups of girls who meet together every month to hang.

   How old do girls have to be to join Girl Scouts? Anyone can join once they go into kindergarten.
   When do you meet? Each troop varies.

We meet at the leaders home so the address is not publicized

  How long are the meetings?
Usually 1 hour twice a month

  Do I need to stay for the meetings?
Not at all. Your welcome to drop your daughter off and come back.   

In fact, we encourage it because the children usually are less distracted by mom being around.


  How many girls are in your troop?

  What ages are the girls in your troop?
We have a multi-troop. If your daughter is 7 years old visit us at http://brownie.scoutlander.com

  Are the girls in the troop from one school? No
. Most of our girls go to different schools

  How much is it to join (national fee)?
GSA charges $12 a year

  How much are dues?
$87.00

  What are dues used for?
Crafts, snacks and other things that may pertain to the meeting, uniform, petals, badges

  When do you start selling cookies?
We start selling January

  How much cookie money stays in the troop?
.70 cents per box

  What is cookie money used for?
Badges, petals, field trips, camping trips for each year. We have a troop goal where we like to spend some of that money to reward ourselves for a good job done!

  What books do I need to buy?
You don’t have to have books; however, if you’d like one, I’d be happy to order one for you.

  Do I need to buy a uniform?
You don’t have to have a uniform; however, if you’d like one, I’d be happy to order one for you.

  What do I need to buy to put on the uniform?  
Petals and badges your daughter earns through out the year and I will give them out.

  What does the troop buy to put on the uniform? The girls all chose what they want to do to earn badges.

  Do you camp?
Once the girls go into Brownies its something we are considering

  Where do you camp?
That hasn’t been chosen yet

  How long will my daughter be at her current program level?
until she reaches the next age level. Brownies are for girls in 1st and 2nd grade.

  What do you do during meetings?
They each vary. If you have not received our yearly scheduled meetings, please ask me

  What do they do for fun?
Crafts, play games, sign songs, do service projects

  Can I help at meetings?
We can use all the help we can get!

  How can I be an assistant leader?
We’d love to have you be an assistant leader

 Is there leader training?
Yes there is training. If you’re interested, I can get you in contact with the San Tan Council

 Do adults have to register every year? Each troop is different on their policy of this

 Does my daughter have to sell cookies? No she doesn’t have to sell

 Can I bring her sibling to an event? We try to keep siblings out of meetings because they want to participate and there is also a liability factor to consider

  What are the levels of Girl Scouting?

Girl Scouts are dedicated to solely to girls in grades K-12. Six level comprise the Girl Scout program. Each level offers appropriate and relevant programming and activities for girls that are based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and The Girl Scout Promise and Law.

  Girl Scout Daisy, Grades K - 1

   Brownies 2nd-3rd

  Girl Scout Daisies might...

  • finger paint murals, or make colorful barrettes and paper-bag puppets
  •  take trips to pick pumpkins and apples
  • camp and hike with their family
  • plan a picnic and make snacks
  • earn patches for activities like reading fun books or helping their community
  • visit and explore a fire station, an animal shelter, or a local park
  • make a book about you and your family
  • adopt a grandparent at a senior center
